Concept & Features

Welcome to Imposition Studio, your comprehensive tool for effortless document imposition. This user guide will walk you through the simple and efficient process of setting up a master form with symbolic numbers. With Imposition Studio, the creation of additional pages becomes an automated breeze, driven by the number of source PDF pages imported into the links list. Discover how pagination seamlessly unfolds, calculated with precision from the symbolic numbers entered either manually or automatically on the master form. Let's embark on a journey of streamlined imposition and enhanced document management.

How Imposition Studio Works ?

Imposition Studio comes equipped with a vast collection of ready-to-use templates, offering you a wide variety of options for your projects. However, if you prefer to create a manual layout, here is a step-by-step procedure to guide you through the process of customizing your own layout.

Select a single or multi-page PDF file that includes all the pages of your book, magazine, or brochure. Import the chosen PDF file(s) as the source PDF and specify the number of pages needed for a signature in Imposition Studio. Adjust the ups/repeats according to the specifications of your printing machine. Configure the margin or output style based on the specifications of your image setter or CTP. Click the "Export to PDF" button to generate the final impositioned PDF using Imposition Studio. Print the resulting PDF file on a Digital Printer or place it in the hot folders of your image setter or CTP workflow.

An example 3 step process of making output PDF for a 16 page book.

For a 16-page book printed using a master form with 8 pages using a work & turn layout (4 pages on each side), automatic layout selection will handle  symbolic page numbering  automatically. However, if you opt for a manual layout, you should set 8 symbolic page numbers on the master form, irrespective of the total number of pages in the book.

Consider a scenario where the job consists of only 8 pages, and you need to number them as if it were an 8-page book. In such cases, you can enter numbers like 8, 1, 4, 5 on the front signature and 6, 3, 2, 7 on the back side.

If your book has 64 pages and you choose saddle stitching as the binding method, the page number you entered as 8 will correspond to the 64th page of the linked PDF on the first form. This ensures accurate alignment of page numbers with the chosen binding method.

Create a master form with symbolic numbers: In this example, we require a master form with two sides since the job involves printing on both the front and back of the machine. The layout creation for the master form is available in both  automatic  and  manual  modes.

Imported Source PDF files. Utilize the  PDF links settings  to incorporate the PDF files into the layout. In this example, 16 pages have been imported into the layout.

Final Layout & Output PDF Files: Utilize the " Create Output PDF " option to export this layout as a print-ready output PDF file. Subsequently, you can either print the resulting PDF file using a digital printer or place it in the hot folders of your image setter or CTP workflow.
